Stylist and fashion designer Phupho Gumede K (23) has orchestrated major fashion moments on television, on red carpets, and fashion spreads in editorials.
As a young boy, he loved fashion and experimenting with what was available in his wardrobe, recreating existing outfits and making old looks fashionable.
The last born of four, Phupho grew up in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu. After high school, he enrolled at the University of KwaZulu Natal to study Biological Science.
At this point, he was already getting styling jobs and using his sister and Real Housewives of Durban season one star Ayanda Ncwane as his muse while still studying.
Raised in a woman-headed home and surrounded by females most of his life, he loved the female form and fell in love with fashion because of their influence.
“I was 11 years old when I started sketching my own designs,” he says.
“At 13 years old, I designed a custom garment for my sister Ayanda which she wore at the South African Music Awards.”
A couple of years later, he styled Ayanda for the 2016 Crown Gospel Music Awards.
“Fashion is in my blood, and it’s my gift,” he says
